About Sue

Susan Friend was born and raised in Lewes, DE. She is a Cape Henlopen High School graduate. Sue and her husband Mike met in 1983 at a Blue Gold Boy Scouts Awards Dinner. They have been married for over 35 years. Sue worked several retail and restaurant jobs. In 2008 she got laid off from her job and had to reinvent herself. She looked at many options and thought she could do well as a locksmith. Sue has always been good at solving metal puzzles and figuring things out. She was hired by a locksmith company and learned the trade. She worked hard and learned from her mistakes. In 2011 Sue and Mike decided it was time to start their own locksmith business called Happy Locks. Sue was featured in a 2017 Cape Gazette article (you can read this article on our home page). Sue is one of the few women locksmiths in the country and people are surprised when she tells them she is the locksmith.

About Mike

Mike Martin was born in Old Bridge, NJ. He also lived in Chicago and Phoenix before moving to Lewes, DE in 1980. Mike graduated from Del Tech in 1985 with a computer science degree. Mike has been a programmer for many years. Mike was also interested in locksmithing. Sue and Mike would go to locksmith jobs together and Sue patiently taught him the trade. Mike also handles the advertising and internet marketing for the business. Mike and Sue work well together and make a great team!
